A nice toned dollar with all original striated toning, especially on the obverse. The reverse is also gem toned. You will notice a a few spots of blotchy toning on the reverse. These spots are NOT carbon spots or hydrochloric acid, pvc , etc. Overall a nice coin for the grade. Some people have written in saying why NGC over ICCS ? Well, both are good companies and both are run a little differently than the other. NGC has a proven sound holder, a coin guarantee and decent quality control for the number of coins that get graded. NGC will tend to value grade coins with wonderful toning as well. With their world coin submissions constantly increasing; some abnormalities in grades from particular countries, in my opinion, can be open to second reviews. ICCS uses a softer holder with a mylar pvc inert insert. Coins can slide about in the holder putting extra emphasis on carefully handling ICCS items. Dollars and heavier coins can crack the holder altogther, especially if dropped or jarred. The conservative approach is often associated with ICCS. Many feel coins can make a higher grade with a hard cased company if they take the coin out of an ICCS holder, sometimes true and sometimes false. This happens with any coin and is typically called the crack out game. Both ICCS and NGC are grading tight right now and true grades should be very close. ICCS does see more Canadian coins than NGC, so coins that come weakly struck or with striking problems tend to be better observed with ICCS. Common coins submitted to both companies tend to be conservative on both ends now. I cannot talk for PCGS at the moment as I am not a regular PCGS submitter or observer and can't reflect opinions on grading trends. I still reiterate to buy the coin and not the holder. I urge all collectors to learn and learn and view as many coins as possible. Carefuly examine coins before buying, just like I do. Get second opinions when you feel it warrants. Avoid ugly coins.

A very , VERY beautiful all original toned multi-colour Canadian silver dollar from 1938. This is a semi-key date with a mintage under 100,000 pieces. This is a coin that has dropped in trends by about $100 in the past 4 years. Finding really nice ones, though available, will always take a little time. Toned masterpices remain elusive. In all my years of handling coins, I have only seen about 4 or 5 really desirable 1938's. The rest of the certified 64's have been white and dipped examples; some which I question the grade and just call nice 63's. Avoid all white dollars with any carbon spots. This dollar is a strong 64, but will not grade 65. The colours just add to the all originality of this coin. Coin is available for TOREX viewing or delivery by appointment.

The 1939 dollar is one coin that comes in all sorts of beautiful colours even in lower grades. This coin combines colour and grade together all in one. All George VI coins in MS65 are desirable because the bust was always prone to obvious contact. The wide open fields on the reverse are also highly prone to contact. Many people saved these coins carefully to allow the odd coin to go gem. This is a common coin found in flea markets in low grades ; often heavily polished and cleaned. These commemoratives are always popular amongst collectors. One pocket 1939 dollar was found about 10 years ago and graded a very low G-2 grade ! That is very uncommon as well. Coin available for TOREX 2010 viewing and delivery by appointment.

A fantastic low mintage dollar and semikey date. Trends $450 in MS63 and roars to $1650 in MS64. All dollars are not equal though. Some 63's barely make the grade, others are dipped and stripped of lustre, some have carbon spots, etc. THIS dollar is a premium coin. Nice reverse toning , practically mark free with full lustre. The obverse even shows a light cameo contrast. You might be able to pick up a "mundane " MS 63 at auction for about $350, or something over graded even, but not a coin like this. All coins in an MS63 holder are certainly not equal. But the coin and not the holder. Available for Torex FEB, 2010 viewing by appointment as well. Watch more premium coins being offered at split trends more and more often in the Canadian coin market.

A choice coin that has never been dipped. Strong lustre and light toning. Properly graded. A rare date and underated. Good examples of these dollars are tough to come by. Most 1945's have been repeatedly dipped and cleaned stripping all the original traits away from the coin. This coin has been well preserved from a collection found in Great Britain. A key date.

A very high grade for a coin that is nearly impossible to get in MS65. As a matter of fact, some of the 65's that I have seen weren't really 65's , but nice 64's. This is an average 64 with mild light toning.
