For the years 1940 to 1944 Gems average about $1250.00 each. MS 64's Trend for roughly $250, which is a price that hasn't changed since 1991. So you have a " WILD " spread of $1,000 bewteen 64'5 and 65's. I see people all the time trying to buy my BEST MS 64's for 60 % of Trends. Obviously they do not fair very well with me. Many a time a collector will come back to me and show me a certified 64 and say, " the other dealer just sold this to me for 58 % of Trends. Usually I'll just smile and keep my mouth shut, not to embarrass him by telling him how such a bad coin he just bought. That it is dipped, has carbon spots, is over graded or just plain mundane or even ugly. If that collector was trying to make me feel bad for losing a sale; well he was wrong. ****** This coin is a screamer coin. Should be in an MS65 holder and is a prime candidate for this. In an Old PCGS holder. Old holders mean that coins were graded somewhat more conservatively as all a dealers best inventory was graded first and side by side. Now, material to be graded doesn't come in that way any more and many mistakes are made. The punchline, what is a blaster George VI 50 cent piece really worth in MS64 PQ ?..or is it really a 65 ? My determination is that it has to be worth somewhere between the 2 prices. This 1944 has superb all original toned surfaces on near flawles fields. The reverse is MS66 or better.
