Circa 400 BC - 400 AD . Black Rhyolite or Volcanic Hardstone. Measures 6 " long by 2 1/2 " wide. Excellent sharp edge. Stone has a nice " ring " sound to it when tapped. Shows hints of Obsidian and Mica present. Mid USA origin, probably Arkansas or Tennessee. From a prominent Canadian Collector. Should this pice be Canadian , then the rock is more of a metamorphic nature due to its' folds present in the photos. A superb piece.

Age unknown but at least 6,000 years old. Not your average antique but certainly one from the natural world. Measures 2 " diamter by 1 1/3 " thick. A relatively good sized specimen still in its' alluvial clay surrounding. The clay that surrounds the fossil is immensely fine and would probably pass through a number # 500 sieve by examination. A few ammonites have been discovered in the 4.5 to 7.5 foot diamter. Ammonites are now extinct , unlike the coelacanth fish , which once was thought to be extinct have now been discovered in a few locations in the indian ocean. Go figure.

Nearly intact but missing the arm. Made of fired clay. Found in the Balkans. Measures 5 " long by 3 " wide byabout 1 1/2 " thick. From a small collection of early antiquities from a Toronto, Ontario collector who is scaling down due to his age. This piece has two holes in the sides to allow a string to be passed through it, perhaps around one's neck, but might have been a little cumbersome. Please view photos. Could use more research.

All made of bronze and have original patina. These three pieces measure 1 1/4 " long each. Two are spring loaded and still work properly. The other is not spring loaded or once was , but now doesn't as the pin is now too short after this was cleaned up. It is amazing how this same spring technology is still in usage today. Fibulae are still relatively affordable today. Own something that people actually wore during the time of Jesus. Would make a nice Sunday school present. Sold separately or buy them all.

Measures 4 1/2 " diameter and 3 1/8 " high. Mid-Qing, later 18th Century , approx 1760 - 1810. Made of copper brass with 6 colours of polychrome enamel paste. The bowl is THREE piece made, typical of the era. The top of the bowl is made of a soldered and angle seamed rectangular piece of copper brass, the bottom of the bowl is one conically formed piece of copper brass , the foot or base is again one piece. Superb master craftsmanship. The gauge of the metal is very thick ( 3.8mm ), indicative of its' time period as well. Asian antiques can be a nightmare to the uneducated. Good cloisonne is always in demand as is rare Tiffany glass, china , militaria or whatever. There is a lot to buy , but you have to sort through the mess to get to the get stuff. 99 % of cloisonne offered online is not worth buying. It is made in the " old ways " by slave wages labour or nearly so. Companies such as Splendid Jade Co Ltd, Houyazhai Curio and Super King Ltd send material all over the world day in and day out. Much of it gets to so called antique dealers and is offered without case or clue. Some better quality material comes through by special containers bought by specialized dealers. However , this gets sorted and will always have the good, the bad and the ugly. The rest comes through proper channels, which is most of the good stuff. Private auctions, longtime estates , organized exports, excess museum inventory. When it comes to cloisonne, it is good just to avoid any cloisonne that has decorations on the inside. This will remove 99 % of all online items. The thicker the metal , the better. Avoid thin metal cloisonne items, though some may be old, they tend to damage more and will quickly drop in price because of this. View books such as the " Millers Series " for nice pictures of quality items. This piece is in excellent condition for its' age. The rim is slightly flattened due to a bang years ago. There is some enamel loss on the bowl in one trauma spot, however , since the enamel is so thick it does not figure very much but is noted. This piece is considered museum quality. Outstanding bamboo and lotus flower work with a petal arrangement at the very bottom. Unsigned. This is the finest and earliest piece of early cloisonne that I have handled. Similar to a few pieces at the Royal Ontario Museum. 5 pictures in total.
