A very sharp , chunky bait. Made of a copper fish shell shaped over a core of solid German Silver or Nickel Silver. It has not been tested for real silver content so it actually might have real silver in it. The outside copper side has an elongated elliptical oval of silver wash or electroplate. Two split rings on each end. Also has an early British Style box swivel. Reminds me of a McHarg " indestructible Minnow " , but that is most likely a longshot. The body measures 2 3/4 " long by 1/2 " in width. No markings present. Not quite Swedish or Norwegian . An antique British Lure is my best estimate. It is quite possible that the split rings were added to the bait much later. Circa 1865 - 1885 in my best estimate. Rare *****

Similar to the other , smaller Kopf winch for sale. This brass winch is 1 7/8 " diameter and 1 " wide. The handle knob is hard rubber. The handle is also screwed on as opposed to rivited. The front plate has nice circular line design in the center. Secondly, it is only made of one thin plate of brass. The reel foot is marked " Pat , Nov 24, 85 " and the number " 4 ". The reel foot has some trauma of filing and grindng done many years ago , however , it looks sort of cool and doesn't detract. This is the only one of its' type that I have seen up until now, but I am sure that a few more should exist. Scarce as such.

A nice old reel with full , dark original patina. No damage or missing parts. No makers name or markings. Single action with no check. Measures 2 1/4 " diameter by 7/8 " wide. Considered a narrow spool winch due to the width of the spool. The handle knob is made of bone and is original to the reel; however it is getting worn down and is rather loose. The reel foot has two screw on holes which was normal back in the 1860's and 1870's. A desirable early winch.

An all brass single action early fishing reel by Hendryx Company , USA. Diameter is 1 3/8 " with a stamped 25 yards line capacity. It is in excellent condition with no damage and lots of orignal patina. It is stamped as well for the patent of " Nov 24, 85 ". This is a rare patent stamp for the early Hendryx series. **** More frequent sen dates are he ones as follows, Oct 26, 88 , July 10, 88 , Sept 15, 89 & Jan 27 , 91. So this reel having an 1885 patent date might make this the earliest of the single action series brass reels made by the Hendryx Company. It would be really neat to see a collection of the whole brass series with as many different patent dates as possible. I believe that there is also a May ??, 88 patent date as well as I sold one about 11 years ago on a different online site.

Measures 2 3/8 " diameter by 1 " wide. All brass & single action with no check mechanism. Missing the winding handle knob . The figure 8 handle also comes with an attached brass counterweight. All original with no missing or replacement screws. Original or very old line is still attached. One end of the reel foot has been lightly filed many years ago. The back plate is stamped with a " Fish logo " and the letters " JMC ". Looks French due to the quality of the brass. There are not many makers from the USA or UK that start with JM, so the thought of a Jean Michael , or a Julienne come to thought. An extra input as to who the makler is is well appreciated. Circa 1870's.

A nice " one of a kind item " . It is 2 " diameter by 1 1/4 " wide. Solid heavy brass construction. This is NOT a $3.00 fleamarket brass reel. Crescent handle and ivory knob. Unfiled foot, Excellent to near mint condition with no damage or replacement screws. This is a single action reel with no check. On the bottom of the foot there is an old inventory number of some sort saying " 421 ". No makers markings or stamps. A very high quality pocket trout reel, But I would assume that this reel was never in anybodys pocket.

Measures 2 " diameter by 1 1/4 " wide for the spool. Circa 1890 - 1895. Made of a brass front plate, a hard rubber back plate with german nickel-silver rims. Bone handle of fine polished quality. All original and in excellent working condition with no replacement pieces. Has a constant check mechanism which is getting worn out. The reel foot is NOT filed. On the underneath of the reel foot there is a blotch of old solder. However, there was no need for this solder as there is no damage or holes in this location. This can be portable gas torched off in the future. A nice antique trout reel. Desirable.

Measures 3 1/4 " diameter and 1 1/2 " wide for the spool. Has its ' original rope braided line as well, which helps determine age. Original deep patina. Reel foot is unfilied. The reel foot is star pin construction with opposite screws attaching this to the reel plates. One screw is mismatched, but very old and unnoticeable. Also has a finely crafted bone handle. On the back plate there is one small plug repair of some sort, however, this was done over 100 years ago and doesn't detract. The main feature of this reel is the Super-Thick S handle , which is one of the chunkiest I have ever seen ! This makes for a very desirable reel. Circa 1860 -1870. This reel was most likley used for bait fishing such as pike, eels and carp. The angler must have peeled out the line by hand and threw it out to where the fish were, as I'm sure a reel like this would not have casted at all with the heavy line. Otherwise it could have been used for trawling, albeit, behind a very slow boat. RARE. Price is firm on this reel, this is the lowest that I can sell this.
