Written by John H. Williams , 1910, Published 1911 by G P Putnam's & Sons , New York, London, Tacoma. I am assuming that this book was printed in the Tacoma office. Measures 10 " by 7 " by 1/2 " thick. This spectacular reference came in three finishes, leather bound, cloth bound and embosssed paper bound, which is what this book is. Williams was so proud of this masterpiece achievement that he made it available " subject to class " so to speak. Even this paper version cost 75 cents back in 1911, which was a lot of money. Just think , it cost 3 pieces of territorial gold quarters ! The cloth & leather cost $1.50 & $2.50 respectively. This book covers and shows every vantage point of the MT. Rainier. Black and white and colour filter photographs grace practically every page. Famous artists paintings are also covered, as well as the many hiking and climbing expeditions up the Mountain. Also shows the VERY dangerous glaciers around the mountain via superb picture taking. Info elaborates on the water channels around the mountain, the hydro electric projects, the forestry, the roads, the parks, etc, etc The most complete and beautiful reference on Mt Rainier of the time, and possibly ever. Just reading the book puts you on the volcano mountain and enrobes you with the cold crisp snow and air. In excellent condition or better overall. Belongs in a Puyallup museum ! A very rare book.
