Original box in wonderful undamaged condition for … A two inch snooker or billiard ball. One ball only in excellent condition or near so. Has one small nick and extensive crazing as shown. Original box in wonderful undamaged condition for it's age and usage. These balls were the first real attempt to make billiard balls out of something other than ivory. Crystalate , though a synthetic compound , more resembled a type of concrete in it's early stages. The balls tended to explode and shatter on many occasions. By 1920 new synthetic materials were the norm . These first versions were not made for long and are considered scarce . Usually only found at early sporting auctions. This offering only includes one ball , the plush insert and the original embossed box. These early balls are the equivalent of early golf balls . For the billiard enthusiast. PAC CODE ( 52007717 )

Three piece bronze construction. Measures almost 9 " high by 3 1/2 " diameter. Excellent minus overall condition. No trauma . The lid has an early 20th century hex nut keeping the top together as a unit. There is an early English Bristol ink liner glued in the receptacle so I imagine that the original is long gone. With the new ink cup the lid rather just sits in place and shows off well. My suspicion is the the old ink cup was formulated and designed to accept the top cover with more rigidity. This aside , it is a wonderful showing piece , and very rare at that . The ribbing and bottom knurling is wonderfully French and a tell tale sign of the period. The flaming finial practically matches the Statue of Liberty. Yes, there is an outside shot of this being a Federal American bronze inkwell as well , as it comes from the same collection as the New England scent bottle also listed. Federal and French styles both have design overlaps from the same period. A nice 200 year old inkwell of stunning size and looks. ( PACT CODE 301YYEECCAI ) Price: $265.00 USD

Piece is hand or possibly even field forged. Has a lightweight handle design so as to not be weighed down on the battlefield. No markings. Should be appreciated by the Civil War expert. Mcdougall . Discovered and dug up in the early 1930's in the Niagara -on - the Lake region. The " digging " in this area at that time was a result of vineyard planting , to which the whole area is now famous for. The general area is about 2 miles at most inland from the Battle of Fort George , which entailed barrages of cannon fire at each other's forts. many of these balls were obviously misfired and ended up miles away. Dr. Paul Wilson was a collector from St. Catherines who had a seasoned taste for historical items from the War of 1812 in general. Parts of the estate eventually ended up with dealer Jamie McDougal and now these partitioned cannon balls to my nest. One ball measures 2 1/2 " diameter while the other is around 2 " . The interesting fact about these cannon balls is that they are of the ' seamless ' variety of manufacture. Instead they have a rather oblong or sausage shape to them. They appear to be made haphazardly or even blacksmith handled. The larger looks to be initially top filled and beaten down for smoothness. The smaller one has 2 nice gouges on opposite sides , which look to be blacksmith tong impressions meaning that this smaller cannon ball was actually quench hardened. A nice pair that I can separately or together. Obviously cheaper if the 2 are sold together. Price: $245.00 USD pair

The Bourne's were famous and acclaimed for all of their stoneware and crocks for holding ink, which are found all over the UK, USA and even Canada. This crock was purchased via a very large estate In Ontario recently. I didn't give it too much attention figuring it was pretty common but after research I've discovered that anything BUT an ink crock made by Bourne is not common and a pleasant change. This piece is nice collector size again at 6 1/2 " high by 5 " diameter. Crudely stamped by Joseph Bourne before he was using an incised stamping iron. Superb condition with no ships or cracks. Comes with a lid that fits nicely , however it doesn't appear to be original to the crock. It is however just as old as the crock is . A nice early piece of British crockery by a famous maker, but not a really well known shape. Excellent for the country kitchen. Does anyone have a country kitchen anymore ? Scarce. Price: $45.00 USD

Without going into the French Revolution, the siege of the Bastille fort was essentially the start of political reformation in France and the demise of the French Monarchy. Ball … Very early Canadian 5 pin bowling ball. From a vintage sporting collection estate from Ontario. What looks like marblization in the photos actually isn't. It is just the shades of rubber. Ball measures 16.1 " in circumference or about 5.12 " in diameter. This size is representative of the era when no official rules were present. This ball has been ground down from a 10 pin ball ; which is exactly what was done in Toronto in the early days of 5 pin bowling. When rubber balls were first vulcanized to make them harder , it was always the outer most areas of the surface which became the hardest . Since this ball was ground down , it is much softer than a traditional " as made " 10 pin or 5 pin bowling ball. Though quite hard, when you clang 2 of them together , the noise is actually a soft dull thud as opposed to a hard sharp clashing sound. If you are a bowling fanatic , this ball is for you. TWO available , one of them is shown. Both are in nice condition. EXTREMELY RARE. Price: $75.00 CDN each
