A small chunky " bamboo design " tea scoop. Measures 2 3/4 " inches long and weighs 37.5 grams. Contains about 1 ounce of pure silver. No markings on this piece. No assay or purity markings. Can be anywhere from 0.900 fine to 0.965 fine as Japanese silver standards were much higher and often not marked. Could also be used for sugar, coffee or whatever its intentions. A beautiful item. Exact age unknown. Workmanship suggests anywhere from 1880 to 1920.

Circa 1880 - 1900. If not an inkwell it certainly looks like one. Measures 3 1/2 " high by 5 " at the base. Superb deep reds and earthtones covered with salt fired glaze finish. No damage and in superb condition. From an important Toronto, Ontario doctor 's collection. It could be quite possible that tis piece is Chinese, however, it comes from the same collection as the previous listed piece which was obtained in Japan. The bottomside has old felt protecting and covering the base. It has not been lifted to obtain the signature if there is one. Most lilkely produced in the Shigaraki kiln are of Japan outside of Kyoto. A very nice piece exhibiting the early glazes found on pottery 400 years earlier.
