From an important Toronto, Ontario doctor 's collection. It could be quite possible that tis piece is Chinese, however, it comes from the same collection as the previous listed piece which was obtained in Japan. The bottomside has old felt protecting and covering the base. It has not been lifted to obtain the signature if there is one. Most lilkely produced in the Shigaraki kiln are of Japan outside of Kyoto. A very nice piece exhibiting the early glazes found on pottery 400 years earlier. Price: $169.00 USD

Measures 5 1/2 " across the top by 2 1/2 " high. Superb condition with no chips or breakage. Circa 1680 - 1712 . Imitates Chinese cream wares from 200 - 300 years earlier. Though typically Korean in design, it might have been made by an immigrant Chinese potter as well. Similar bowls have also been found in Japan. It is mindboggling how these stay so well prerserved , much owed to the fact that the glazes were sturdy and the clay was fully fired. These were relatively common so to speak about 10 -15 years ago; but now they are quite hard to find as collectors have bought most of the good supply up. If you try other popular online sites you'll be quite surprised to not discover many at all. This piece is simply superb and was bought privately from my colleague who frequents China & Japan every year to view fresh uncovered stock, however , I purchased this piece 11 years ago. Regulations in place now restrict much antique pottery from leaving China & Korea. Price: $179.00 USD

Measures 6 " high , the top diameter is 3 1/2 " while the base is 4 " across . Very thick and heavy stoneware. Earth-tone semi-matte glaze. The base line is wiped of any excess glaze in the likes of Shoji Hamada and William Staite-Murray. The bottom is covered with an early felt pad from the 1900's to 1920's giving a true indication that this pottery is at least as old as that. From a Toronto, Ontario doctor's estate. I haven't removed the felt padding to look for a signature, but it is truly tempting. Museum and investment quality. Most likely made in the Shigaraki Kiln area of Japan outside of Kyoto.
