The pen is shown in OXIDIZED CONDITION. We do not polish or clean up all of our pens , per se, before delivery. In the past 7 years I have tried to locate another example of this # 1938 model, but have come up empty. Keep in mind this is a DIP PEN and has no ink flow regulator found on 20th century fountain pens. Leroy & Fairchild were situated in New York City and catered to the world's elite at that time. This pen was all but unafforadble back over 100 years. It is a wonder that this pen is still a quality MASTERPIECE. Items like this simply do not disapppoint. Impossible to replace at this level. Probably a candidate for the finest known survivior for the type. Price: $625.00 USD

A modern rarity at that. The pen has some oxidation issues from the silver / gold plate contact and should get some professional advice on how to address this. Otherwise in superb used condition. Probably used for only for a short time period. This was the highest or second highest Montblanc issue price for 1985. I'm not sure if the # 1443 came in 14 karat gold or not. Price: $455.00 USD

In 1880 according to the USA Census he was already registered as a pen and pencil maker. This pen is simply stunning and appears never inked or used. It is a gold filled chased filigree design. Fully marked on the barrel and nib for H M Smith & Co. These double mechanical pens and pencils are engineering marvels of the time and are exetremely hard to come by. I simply cannot understand the pristine preservation of this pen. smith had his shop on Nassau Street in Manhatten New York, close to the other pen makers of the day. This pen cannot disappoint and destined for the best of the best in pen collections. It is also noted that Mark Twain visited the H. M.
