Mint in Box. Barrel and cap in marked sterling silver. Made in Italy around 1980 and considered rare. Gold plated tip or some iridium based metal or equivalent. Takes a cartridge that is included with the pen. The pen is shown in OXIDIZED CONDITION. We do not polish or clean up all of our pens , per se, before delivery. In the past 7 years I have tried to locate another example of this # 1938 model, but have come up empty. I bought this pen from the original owner who claims it to be a limited edition...and I do believe so that this is true.

Simply a Masterpiece and one of the best writing instruments I've ever handled. Superb condition. Bears full markings and its' early 1867 patent date. Most likley made a few years after this date though. Sports rolled gold appointments attached into a vulcanized rubber compostite. 14 Karat nib. Keep in mind this is a DIP PEN and has no ink flow regulator found on 20th century fountain pens. Leroy & Fairchild were situated in New York City and catered to the world's elite at that time. This pen was all but unafforadble back over 100 years. It is a wonder that this pen is still a quality MASTERPIECE. Items like this simply do not disapppoint. Impossible to replace at this level. Probably a candidate for the finest known survivior for the type.

Original list price of $650.00 USD !!! This is the gold plated , guilloche model. Was only made in 1985 for a short time period for " yuppie " and baby-boom buyers. For over 10 years I have tried to locate another model identical to this and have come up empty. A modern rarity at that. The pen has some oxidation issues from the metal / gold plate contact and should get some professional advice on how to address this. Otherwise in superb used condition. Probably used for only for a short time period. This was the highest or second highest Montblanc issue price for 1985. I'm not sure if the # 1443 came in 14 karat gold or not.

If you collect fancy mechanical pencils and pens , the MORDAN name is a popular name to start with. Fine quality materials such as gold, gold filled , sterling and quality plate were always used. The patent number on most pencils goes back to the earliest patent registered in the mid 1800's. The earliest Mordans are always marked S. Mordan or something similar, this one is marked " Mordan Everpoint " and " Gold Filled ". Dates to about 1920. Mint condition in the box. Not monogrammed. Box is in outstanding condition as well. This is a unisex pencil, but targeted after a male audience. Other models were made with a more feminine touch. Very rare in this type of quality and combination. Mechanical pencils in this era were workhorses, so finding mint examples are certainly a prize in itself with excellent appreciation potential. ( VAIS CODE 50405 ) Scarce.
