Measures 9 " high and is 4 " in diameter. Marked " Bordeaux , 12 " , also has a makers or sellers monogram. This is a lead or salt glaze on porcelain. Exhibits a row of Fleur Des Lis on the top and on the bottom. Lots of acanthus scrolling amongst a slew of grotesque birds. The top was once a gold gilt ormolu crown band, but now had all the gold worn off, or nearly so. The lid is missing or perhaps never existed. I first thought that this was 16th Century by the look and quality, however , by its' manufacture it is mid 18th to late 18th century revival. This piece has been DAMAGED and restored , by the looks of it the repair is over 100 years old. An 8 " perimeter piece has been reaffixed. There is a 6 " hairline crack down the side and another 5 " one just over from that. Despite the past damage, it is a wonder that we still have this piece to enjoy today. It is still worthy of MUSEUM STATUS based on its' rarity and manufacture. If it wasn't damaged ...... this piece would run $3,000 to $6,000. Lots of crazing present as well. Virtually a masterpiece due to the vibrant colours alone. Careful shipping will be needed. I have never seen another jar of this type. Despite the damage, this piece is considered near impossible to replace. The jar was purchased over 60 years ago from Europe and has resided in an Oakville , Ontario estate since then. Probably has changed hands over 30 times since it was made, and is still " together ' , so to speak. Nine pictures in total.

Age unknown but at least 6,000 years old. Not your average antique but certainly one from the natural world. Measures 2 " diamter by 1 1/3 " thick. A relatively good sized specimen still in its' alluvial clay surrounding. The clay that surrounds the fossil is immensely fine and would probably pass through a number # 500 sieve by examination. A few ammonites have been discovered in the 4.5 to 7.5 foot diamter. Ammonites are now extinct , unlike the coelacanth fish , which once was thought to be extinct have now been discovered in a few locations in the indian ocean. Go figure.
