In my travels over 80 % of all the cast iron I see is reproduction. So the advice I give is to learn your field, or buy from a trusted seller. This bulldog small doorstop is a real show stopper of what an original looks like. Firstly, it comes with the original dog chain ! Repros never have the original dog chain attached. This door stop has consistent wear , mostly on the back as the owner would most likley face the dog looking away from the door, such that the paint wear would be most heavy on the back of the dog. There is wear on most high points and feet , and some areas of no wear. Distressed repros have ridiculous wear in all the wrong places as well. This bulldog dates anywhere from 1890 to 1910. Nice original paint, tight seams and an unbungled straight screw. One of the nicest originals that I have ever handled. For anyone who is serious about cast iron items , this is a good starting point reference item. Price: $169.00 USD

The amount of work to make one of these vases is simply unbelieveable. If they broke or fissured during the lathing one would have to start again from scratch. For a fine Chinese art collection.
