A superb excellent to near mint condition spinning reel made by the Lionel Corporation. Lionel expanded their business after the war from just trains and toys to fishing tackle as well. Their capital investment in cast molding equipment was already in-stitu , thus easing the burden into this venture. It didn't last long however as their reels were expensive and heavy. The change from baitcasting to spinning didn't happen overnight, but actually took about 25 years to become the mainstay of modern fishing technique. This is the full bail model # 4 version. It has a left handed crank handle, meaning that you hold the rod & reel in your right hand. Please look at the pictures to ensure that you understand the orientation.

An early marked Fulton Street, New York reel made by Edward Vom Hofe. Also marked with the 1883 patent date. Hard vulcanized rubber and German designed nickel-silver. In very fine working condition with no problems. There are superficial problems as noted. One side is inscribed " NA " ; somewhat haphazardly as many a time reels were monogrammed, but with more grace and style as this one. The other side has a few hairline cracks around the bottom screws and a professional PINNED rubber plate plate repair near that. Those were the days. The diameter of the reel is 4 " and the width is 2 3/8 " . Hopefully this still collectable reel can find a home with other Vom Hofe Reels.

Circa 1952 or thereabouts. The OTCO stands for Ohio Tool Company, the namesake of the manufacturer. Very sharp design with cast aluminum and stainless steel. Definately not a cheap reel and not made long. Superb condition and problem free. Says " will not backlash " on it, however many spinning reels did and still do backlash depending on how much line you put on the spool, etc. A nice collectable reel and rare as such.

Made in USA model. Dated for " FK ", which is 1951. Also appears in an ALW catalog in 1955 for a whopping $25.00 ! Excellent condition and all working order with all parts. The rather new technology of incorporating high quality stainless steel plates and fixtures into the reel made it expensive. Few sold making all stainless steel President reels scarce to moderately rare.
