Measures 4 1/2 " tall by 1 " diameter. Excellent condition with polishing well done. This item has been used greatly and the threads to the cap are weak, however the top does screw down rather tightly still. Probably used for morphine needles. A very rare item as this item is rather custom made as opposed to being a military doctor's issue. Most likely a doctor's or medic's private practice item. Very rare.

Totally original and in the rough. This transit was recently bought in Texas and shipped to Ontario, Canada. Comes with the original dovetailed wood box as well. No wooden tripod, just the transit and the box. Has original brass lens cap and 2 other brass cylindrical pieces. The ivory or ivorine , bone lighting shield is cracked in 2 and needs fine gluing or repair. This is such an original find that the dust and dirt and dead wasp carcasses are still inside the box. No other damage to report but may be missing minor accessories. All the knobs are present and working, the compass works fine and all the levels are still full of water and functional. Made from 1890 - 1916 under this name , models changed in style and features over the years. A new transit such as this cost a kings ransom at about $250 a unit. Brandis were a top of the line transit made in Brooklyn , New York. There is one example of a Brandis & Sons transit in the Smithsonian Institute. That model is cleaned up but not restored to " as new " . Once you take the original patina off of the transit it cannot be changed. They look nice either way however. Restored models " as new " fetch about $2,500 + each , when you can find one. I haven't decided which way I want to go with this transit, but would be happy to just sell it as it is. Shipping might run a little high due to weight, but it is easily transportable. An amazing piece of American Engineering History. I've already had 3 or 4 experts look at the transit and all agree with the asking price. A rare offering and a surprizing find. Still untouched in any way since it was stored over 80 years ago. Please ask for more pictures if needed.

Measures about 4 inches by 4 1/2 " high. Made with a cast iron base and higher quality chrome or surgical steel upper half. Very hard to ascertain just what exactly what this thing is , but I am sure that it comes out of a laboratory of some sort. Seems to be a rare item. A superb offering. This item was a cherry pick out of a collection of 42 Civil War items from a prominent Toronto, Ontario collector. Of the 42 pieces assembled over a period of 32 years, about 17 or 18 of the items were tin type pictures, which were all sold as one group to someone else, a few were swords, a handful of badges and the rest were all personal effects and one of a kind things such as this. The sight measures 14 1/2 " long while the stitched leather case is 16 1/2 " long. The case is the highest quality stiched leather with belt holder and brass caps with the top one being a crude spring closure, much to the effect of early gun powder flasks. The bottom cap on the case has a Confederate scalloped design or ruffled edge. The telescopic sight has two bands of French or rebel Fleur De Lis near the occular or eyepiece. When sighting the scope it comes with built in cross hairs when viewing through it. There is no maker stamped on this sight. It is widely known that there were at least 2 makers of rifle sights for the Union Forces , plus a few smaller and very rare makers. I have no clue as to who made a scope for the Confederate side. Also written on the sight are graduated makers for distance with a crude screw adjustment. It says, " under 75 Ft , 8x, 4x & 50 ft & under " ...at 50 feet away I'd either be shooting with or without the scope adjusted or ducking for cover ! Looks to be completely American made. The glass optics are high quality and undamaged. The whole ensemble is in superb condition, complete and undamaged. Possibly unique at this level of preservation. There are no markings indicating this scope to be French made or English made as well. This offering constitutes a wonderful opportunity to own a very early ...one of the earliest functional rifle sights used in North America. Historically important to the gun and rifle collector community as well. Might I add it is completely legal to ship as well. Serious offers considered as I have no pricing data. If the offers are low I'll send it to Christie's, New York. 8 pictures total , keep scrolling to see them all.

Measures 10 1/2 " diameter by 4 " high. Considerable wearing, chop marks and dings. Numbered inventory # 9266 on the bottom. Quite weighty at over 10 pounds ! Be prepared for shipping costs. Nice age and original patina. Exact age unknown but would date somewhere between 1855 and 1910. These bowls would be used for crushing rock, acid tests and the like. After hours it would have easily doubled for a spitoon or a dog bowl. It is however , much too heavy to be intended for these purposes. This is my most unique and interesting find for 2011 so far. I have never handled one of these items before. Extremely rare and worthy of a mining museum.

A superb ALL BRASS German microscope. All original and undamaged. This scientific instrument comes with the original serial number card ( # 26224 ) , which was issued with the microscope in 1893. The card also shows that it came with 2 OCULARS as opposed to three, the number # 3 size and # 7 size. So it isn't missing any oculars, it just came with 2 as proven by the original serial card. On the back of the card it was signed by three users, one person in 1894, one in 1902 and another in 1906. Comes with its' original box & KEY ! The box has an age - drying crack down the back, however the box is still strong and sturdy. Also included with this package are 2 barlow lenses of 6X and 10X . There is also an accessory box with glassplates , etc. All brass instruments are very desirable. Not too long afterwards , microscopes were made in brass, but were made with iron bases. Then brass was dropped altogether by the 1920's. A true classic piece. There are 10 pictures total....so keep scolling to see all the shots. Offers considered.
