Emile Joseph Nestor Carlier, born January 3 ,1849 Cambrai - died April 11, 1927 Paris , France. A well listed and medalled sculptor from France. Internationally acclaimed and held highest honours during the period of 1890 -1900. This piece is 11 " high by 8 " wide by about 5 " wide. It is heavily bronzed spelter and cold painted or patinated. The double sides are perfectly seamed together forming a watertight vase. Sits on a red/brown marble plinth, typical of the late 1890 - 1900 era. Signed in incuse " Carlier ". Condition is truly spectacular but for a light crack in one of the necks which shouldn't figure too harshly for a piece of this nature. The plinth is perfect. All high points show natural expected light wearing for a 120 year old piece of Art Nouveau. I could not find any auction data or past historical records for an Emile Carlier in this style of sculpture. Production numbers probably did not exceed 20 at most. The casting and finishing of this piece is exceptionally high and is first quality. The details of the casting is again truly exceptional. Christie's New York records auction history of Carlier's up to and over $15,000. Other auction houses show strong price history for both Nouveau and later Art Deco pieces. My listed price is only a faint guess. Under all research and data history I must assume that this piece is extremely rare. Serious artisans only.

Circa 1890 to 1922. Stands 3 " high by about 2 1/2 " long and the same in width. Looks to be a long necked swan. Has obscure assay marks and import markings. Looks to be from Poland, Romania or possibly Italy. My better guess is that they are fancy French or Austrian markings from a private artisan. Looks to be a head of Mercury in an octagon. Finess of silver approxiamately 0.850 to 0.900. Weight of 149.2 grams translating to a bullion measure of 4.0 + troy ounces of silver. If you know the markings please send in an email as my source references do not cover these markings. Can convert to other currency pricing as well.

Circa 1905 - 1915. Measures roughly 3 " high by 2 1/2 " long when standing up. This was the Chinese answer to the Russian stone Faberge carvings. Made of rare Chinese Granite or Dolomitic Limestone. Hand carved and painstakingly polished to perfection. Egg yolk glass eyes. No damage or chips. Superb condition. Extremely rare as such. Possibly unique. ****** Items like this were only avaible at exclusive shops in Shanghai or Beijing. A colleague of mine feels that this piece quite possibly could have come from Russian origin; due to the type of stone used. I personally purchased this piece from Toronto's leading Asian Antique's dealer via a wealthy & prominent Hong Kong estate.

Circa 1880 - 1900. The best inkwell that I have handled in over 25 years. This is a two part casting fitted together as a unit with brass screws at the bottom. Depicting an owl hovering over a young goat. Possibly Masonic. Superb detail and made to the highest quality standards. No makers name or origin. Possibly British or Austrian. The eyes of the owl are glass. One glass eye has a hairline crack. Missing the inner glass or porcelain ink reservoir. Needs a good cleaning as there is old Brasso residue in the nooks and crannies. The owl as an inkwell is known to the collector community, but I have never seen the owl with another bronze figural piece such as this. Extremely rare and worthy of the best inkwell collection. Offers considered. Measures 6 " by 5 " by 6 " roughly.

A very nice cast and chiselled bronze bust of the World famous pianist Franz Liszt. This piece is all original and from the early 1900's or earlier. It is quite possible that this item was on a plinth or clock or something or other as the underside shows locations where bronze pins used to be. The signature appears to be " Tilre " or " Tilbe " and looks to be Austrian. I haven't been able to pinpoint this sculpter as of yet and would appreciate any assistance. Stands about 8 1/2 " inches high and 4 1/2 Inches across. This same name has been found on similar bronzes to the likes of Napolean. Liszt was an eccentric pianist who had many prerequisites before playing in front of any audience. Still the greatest pianist who ever lived.
