Referred to me by some of my friends On Three Mile Lake , which is close to Skeleton lake. This is a no name 5 1/4 " diameter Ferris wheel trolling reel. The huge fact about this reel is that it is literally " Frozen in Time " , frozen for almost 100 years frozen. The original copper line and 100 pound braided line in the internal section has not been in motion since this reel was expired due to a broken reel seat and hammered up against the boat house wall. Unfortunately the boathouse had to come down last year as it was sinking into the lake and was time for a new build. Thanks to friends the owners were willing to part with this wall hanger as they didn't really fish. Due to the state of preservation, the patina and the local history behind this Muskoka lakes reel, I had to get it. Now, it's available to anyone who really appreciates the quaintness and aura of Muskoka , Ontario. This is the best original wall hanger lake trout reel I have ever seen . I 've seen them all , ones from the 40's 50 's 60's , rod and reels, combos , etc , etc , but this circa 1910 to 1920 tried , used and retired reel goes a huge step into tackle aesthetics that only the pictures can tell the story.

I almost forgot to list last years " find of the year ", but here it is. For tackle collectors out there , old fine tackle still exists buried in peoples houses, though not much and few and far between, it is STILL OUT THERE. This is a 1 7/8 " diameter face , unmarked constant click check trout winch. Fully working and in excellent condition for its' age with wonderful patina. Only note is one brass pin on the reel foot that is missing and should be left alone. Has original bone or ivory handle. The reel foot is very crude and might appear as a transitional move away from the rounded early clasps that would go around the rod butt. The brass pinned construction would most likely rule this reel out being an early Haywood from 1801 to 1812, as Haywood was already using screws. Ustonson was still using brass pins at the same time period. Worthy and very important to note is that the handle is OPPOSITE the side of the check mechanism, which is a characteristic of practically ALL pre-1800 London tackle makers , and also characteristic of early Haywoods and Ustonson's. I'm outright concluding that the reel is Georgian era based on these features. 18th century makers Gimble and Patten come to question, a Haywood prototype or an unmarked Ustonson could all be candidates for the maker ; or someone else totally. Early Georgian tackle, or 200 year old tackle is a still very vibrant spot for collectors and is a hot market , with low supply and plenty of interest. I'm very happy to offer an early piece of fishing tackle as my " Find of the year " - 2017. extra information and inquiries welcome .

Brand new in the box, never fished . All accessories and paperwork. These reels are rather difficult to find . They weren't made for long nor in high quantities. Importing these reels from France made them much more expensive in the North American market. this reel only needs a wipe down and has traces of long stale factory oil on the face plate, but only a marginal amount. Mint examples of this reel are a true collectors prize. Rare in this state of preservation.
