Circa 1886 as it is mentioned in an 1886 Chapman catalogue. Being an early Chapman; these baits are elusive and very difficult to come by. It is much easier finding allures and pickerel baits then hero baits. Measures 2 1/2 " long for the blade. No hook, also comes with a tapered end box swivel. In nice good condition, missing some silvering and red paint as shown in the photos. Marked " Chapman & Son , Theresa , NY ".

The year of 2016 marks the year that early Skinner Turkey Foots and Wings have hit the $1,000 trading level. Wholesale trade levels have pushed through the $800 mark. Skinner is known for mass producing the fluted lures and larger plain Jane musky metal lures, BUT THESE , on the other hand are truly hard to find and weren't made for very long. Perhaps the punching stamps were lost in the St. Lawrence River ? Whatever the reason The " Turkey Combo " lures are very rare and very desirable fancy lures. They are still ranked very high on many want lists. This blade measures 2 1/8 " long , has full red paint on the back AND the silver patina is all original and truly gorgeous. Most feet I see in collections have been polished and cleaned making original toned examples that much more rarer. As prices rise sellers and buyers should find a happy medium. Marked " Patented May 18, 1886. G M Skinner, Clayton , N.Y. . Understand that in the 1870's and 1880's there were sudden depressions and recessions that lasted months or years which could have easily affected the small goods manufacturers. This could have been a reason for this lures rarity as well.

Circa 1915 . Measures 5 " long for the body. All CATALINA Minnows are at least scarce to rare. They weren't shipped country wide in great amounts and were mainly a coastal saltwater bait. Finding a shortly lived and made Metallized version is certainly a real prize. I still can't figure out how these lures were so professionally wrapped around wood, with allowances for the eyes, the tapering and everything else. The condition of this lure is an amazing excellent or better with no metal cracking. Usually when found metallized Catalina's are found severely dented and cracked or missing 1/2 of the nickel plating. This example is the best I have seen and exceeds my other example. Very tough to improve upon. A highlight in any collection. Over 100 years old as well.

BLUE GRASS REELWORKS Kentucky BAITCASTER REEL

Circa 1905 to 1915 , 3 1/2 " face diameter. Brass foot with brass line guard , aluminum back and ebonite spool. All my combined references have this reel made from about 1896 to 1927, some books and catalogues have the wrong reel pictured with the model making dating much more difficult than first thought. My guess being the brass line guard is evident would be latest around 1922 or thereabouts with a target date of manufacture of about 1915. If anyone has the correct date range let me know. Serial number # 2196 . Condition is a " superb excellent ", the ebonite spool still shines , the fly line still shines and looks new as well. The only drawback is the reel seat foot , which looks slightly offset due to custom filing , more on the right side than that of the left. It looks factory done or at least professionally done and is in no way a hack job. If you're a perfectionist this isn't for you. If you're a near perfectionist than this reel can be truly appreciated. It is sold in the rough, and still looks newish. The handles and brass need a solvent wipe only. This reel shows to the 10's as it is . Not easy to obtain one online, usually these trade for good money between serious collectors at swap meets. A wonderful reel offering.

Circa 1920's to 1930. Aluminum alloy construction. Face measures 5 1/8 " diameter. Has both a freespool , click and tension drag positions. Excellent working condition. Reel foot has been filed or cut to fit the rod it was supposed to be on. Marked " M3 - 1962 ". It isn't from 1962 however. Possibly Russian but in my opinion it is still a British reel based on the Allcock style double handles. The whole game of this reel is the heavily pronounced Ferris Wheel style looks it has, it is just outlandish and amazing ! The best that I have seen. you could swear that it is a childs toy metal ferris wheel. RARE.
