Excellent condition for the age of this, circa 1906. Measures 14 " high by 12 across diameter. Made of copper and brass. An interesting story behind this. I obtained this from a World War One enthusiast - collector , who labelled it as a chemical war container , whereby it had poison liquid in it and was used in the gas attacks. I laughed silly when I read the note, poison it sure was , but had nothing to do with gas warfare in World War one. This container is a commercial container which initially contained the very toxic orange C 1 food colouring additive. Given regulation in 1906 , and finally banned in 1956. A whole 50 years of poisoning America ! The inside of the barrel smells like kerosene , so it seems that the barrel was repurposed for kerosene, due to the convenient spout attached. It doesn't seem war torn, so I doubt that it made it to the World War one front. If it is was war used , the Germans didn't get at it. This is an extremely rare and historical item directly related to the early food science industry .

Every year around this time I put up an item that I view as a really neat discovery in the Antique Market. It doesn't have to be of ancient age , expensive or flashy , it just has to be really aesthetically off the charts. This hits the spot in my opinion, an early French Regime , Quebec, Canada , circa 1600's brass coat hook. Measures 6 1/2 " long by 2 " by 2 ". Made of crude cast brass and then hot alloy dipped in some sort of silver tin plating, perhaps even mildly lead based. This item is practically renaissance or medieval by the looks of it. The crudeness of the manufacture would indicate that it was cast in Canada from brass and copper coins. Whoever did it was wealthy as everyone else during this time period would hang their coat up on an iron nail or a cut piece of wood. To survive 400 years or nearly so in this state of preservation , and not get lost simply boggles the mind. Belongs in an Ottawa Museum, but it is available today. EXTREMELY RARE and should be considered as a Canadian Historical Artifact.

EXTREMELY RARE . Measures 4 1/2 " diameter by 2 " high. Anodized duralum. Officially marked " 2976 - Zeppelin ". Well worn from usage . Sugar had to be covered in the zeppelins so as not to allow moisture. Made by Zeppelin Metalwerkes AG. From time to time furnishings were switched or stolen , allowing them to get into the public domain. Everything that went on board the Graf zeppelin when furnished was weighed, much like things going into a steamship to figure out the gross tonnage. From the Marc Muller collection, Elmshorn, Germany. Possibly used on the Hindenburg, but it wouldn't be a crash relic or identified with fire damages. VERY RARE.
