No box of issue , circa 1889. Superb condition, looks like it was struck as a proof. 40mm diameter, bronze. Without going into the French Revolution, the siege of the Bastille fort was essentially the start of political reformation in France and the demise of the French Monarchy. The opposite side of the medal shows Le Donjon De Vicenne . A beautiful and scarce historical medal from France.

Measures 9 " high and is 4 " in diameter. Marked " Bordeaux , 12 " , also has a makers or sellers monogram. This is a lead or salt glaze on porcelain. Exhibits a row of Fleur Des Lis on the top and on the bottom. Lots of acanthus scrolling amongst a slew of grotesque birds. The top was once a gold gilt ormolu crown band, but now had all the gold worn off, or nearly so. The lid is missing or perhaps never existed. I first thought that this was 16th Century by the look and quality, however , by its' manufacture it is mid 18th to late 18th century revival. This piece has been DAMAGED and restored , by the looks of it the repair is over 100 years old. An 8 " perimeter piece has been reaffixed. There is a 6 " hairline crack down the side and another 5 " one just over from that. Despite the past damage, it is a wonder that we still have this piece to enjoy today. It is still worthy of MUSEUM STATUS based on its' rarity and manufacture. If it wasn't damaged ...... this piece would run $3,000 to $6,000. Lots of crazing present as well. Virtually a masterpiece due to the vibrant colours alone. Careful shipping will be needed. I have never seen another jar of this type. Despite the damage, this piece is considered near impossible to replace. The jar was purchased over 60 years ago from Europe and has resided in an Oakville , Ontario estate since then. Probably has changed hands over 30 times since it was made, and is still " together ' , so to speak. Nine pictures in total.

A very fine 4 " high Meissen tea caddy, measures 4 1/2 ' with the pewter cap. It is uncanny to find one of these still with the cap. The other measurements are 1 7/8 " wide by 2 3/4 " long. Superb condition but for a ding at the top. It is a very fine quality hard paste porcelain and robustly fired. Hand painted as well. Can be found in the 2010 - 2011 Miller's catalog reference. All 18th century Meissen Porcelain is quite rare. Tea caddies were used a plenty making them subject to much more use. This piece is still museum quality and retains the pewter cap. Very rare as such. Offers considered. CODE 309CCBN
