A have a real passion for the Muskoka Lakes of Ontario, Canada as I spent a lot of my childhood there , on Portage lake , which is attached to Lake Joseph. Lake Joseph is a 316 ' foot maximum depth lake carved out of granite. It is a haven for large muskie and lake trout. I got the opportunity to view some relics out of an old cottage via estate sale from this prolific fishing and holiday area. Striking me the most and offered today is this 1930's more or less automated hand crank fishing system. Made obviously for lake trout of that time period , often weighing over 20 pounds , this was the beast made to reel them in. Boxed in a veneered and pressboard wood type box measuring 10 " by 10" by 9 " high and weighing about 12 - 14 pounds. It was most likely strapped on the side of the boat or in the back near the motor. It has a removable hand crank as shown which threads into the box to operate the gear system . The fishing reel is also inside the box. Comes complete with the original heavy duty down rigger leader and lead weight, which is full of age and patina . The whole box is old with true Muskoka smell and mustiness as well. The system works , but needs some tinkering with the axle screw which allows torque to be transferred to the gearing system. Though not really recommended to be fished with ; it is a museum type piece capturing the true essesence of the Muskoka Lakes. Belongs on a cottage fireplace mantel or Historical Museum. a ONE OF A KIND PIECE. RARE.

With the original leather case. Excellent clean condition. Has some boat scraping on the top of the rims. Ivoroid Handles , free spool and click mechanisms. casein excellent condition as well. There is no designation on the reel as to identify whether it is a " 25 C " model or " 25 N " model. It just may well be the first " 25 " model as well. These reels are well made and very stylistic and have a very strong collector following. You can never have enough Ja Coxes in your collection.
