Circa 1927 for the Paris exposition in Madrid , Spain. Adolphe Rivet lived from 1855 - 1908 , but his medallic sculptural work lived on throughout the 1920' s and 1930's. His portraits are world famous and have been found on French coins, medals, medallions and pattern coinage. Out of the several hundred talented medalists of the turn of the century in France, Rivet is most certainly in the top 10. These medals are very rare and seldom encountered anywhere. production number is unknown but these are the first 2 that I have ever encountered. Measures 58mm diameter, silver plated bronze. No box of issue or known to exist.

One is a small medallet commemorating the victory in Verdun, france on White metal, measuring 28mm diameter. The second piece is a bronze square historical medal commemorating the liberation of the Alsace region of France back from the Germans. It measures 40 mm square. The bronze appears designed by a " F. SCHEURER ", or possibly another name on the other side. Many historical medals from this era were made by then famous medalists who did important commissions and design work at that time. This lot is for the World War I enthusiast.
