( I believe that the … Very rare emergency coinage bonk bar from Sri Lanka. This is a concave bar example with SCREWDRIVER ends, similar to the Schloten, Krause and Colombo Museum examples. ( I believe that the Krause example is the Schloten piece ). Measures 67.5 mm long and is 57.36 grams. The sheriffs on the " V's " are straight and parallel. The " 4 3/4 St " and " VOC " are co-ordinated and not reversed, ( flip-flopped ) like the famous Lingren example. Note that the LOWSLEY example was also underweight and of different length, ( yet he was convinced that his was a real official issue ). This piece is truly old and dates back to 1785. It cannot be outright proven to be an official issue. I believe that weights were altered slightly to correspond to debasement of currencies in coin exchange and trade. The denominations and VOC 's were probably aligned both ways by the looks of it. By examining the DIES, it is apparent that MORE than one set were made, so whoever was using one set oriented the impressions differently than the other coiners. This piece came from a coin collection put away since about 1950, it was marked " Sweden " on it , which obviously it was not. Before that the origin is unknown. Based on the quality of the dies, I believe that this bonk bar can only be an original despite the lower weight. If it is a 1785 forgery, then it must have had connections to the people actually making the orignals. This piece is similar to the FORD Collection examples sold in 1995. Price: $700.00 USD
