What you are looking at is one half of a fancy Tiffany writing pad edge. circa 1895 - 1898. It is most likely that the writing pad eventually disintegrated leaving only the ends to be kept and salvaged. It is still rare and very useful if one puts their imagination to it. Best use would be tp put it on a wall to hold peoples or family mail, incoming or outgoing. The slot is about a 1/4 " wide and will hold letters and paper easily. Second creative use would be to put a nicely finished bevelled mirror into it. The piece measures 3 " by 19 " long. No damage but does have wearing to the silver plating over the bronze base metal. Fully marked on the back which is very important, " LCT LOUIS TIFFANY FURNACES INC - 355 C " , a groovy piece that means more repurposed than being a decorative writing pad edge. Not expensive . Excellent condition but missing ( often missing I might add ), the small copper or bronze string around the head. The underside has been refelted. Gurschner is / was perhaps one of the greatest Art Nouveau designers that ever lived and was part of the exclusive " Hagenbund Group ", yup, you got it, another design cliché from that era. He lived from 1873 - 1970 and was native Austria. Check the internet for all his info. This piece is a titled one , called " Vide Poche ". It was very popular all over Europe in the early 1900's. Note that this sculpture has been recast , but they are easy to spot , the signature is very weak and obviously they will not have any wear or natural patina. If one is offered too cheaply, you'll likely be looking at a repro. Price: $950.00 USD

By the famous T F McGANN & Sons Co. Sticks measure 9 3/4 " high and are 4 " diameter at the base. Excellent overall condition for the pair, however, there is some storage water spotting issues that need to be fixed up. This is how they were found in a Hamilton, Ontario estate and are new to the antique world. McGann was a high class foundry responsible for sconces in the White House, The Lafayette Monument and scores of Historical sculptures and architectural items thoughout Boston and US historical sites. Their houseware division seems to be quite small as items like this seldom come to market. For the advanced Tiffany or Art Nouveau collector. Rare. ( SNSN CODE 53200 )
