A rare specimen 1948 penny. Not many of these sets were produced as the dies arrived late in 1948 for the production of these coins. This coin is designated as red & brown, however it looks brown. Nevertheless, it is a double struck razor square edge coin whereby only perhaps a dozen are known. I do not have the actual population data on the 1948 cent. Rare as such.

A very choice example of this ever increasing popular variety. Often when this coin is found it is very unattractive. This example is very choice with premium surfaces. Properly graded. I still don't know how the Harp underneath the number one on the reverse manifested itself. The obvious assumption would be from die polishing. If one considers all the funny stuff that went on at the Royal Canadian Mint in the 1950's and 60's it could be very understandable that an employee might have been in on this variety. This is the best example that I have seen. A premium coin.

Graded ICCS SP60 red & brown. Struck specially for the coronation of King Georges V. These coins were struck in a rather matte or satin finish as opposed to a glass surface proof. The coin is mark free and has razor square edges. Technical grade appears to be a little higher. Coin has probably been handled in the past or wiped carefully with a cloth, but isn't damaged or anything. Full wonderful details. RARE.
